Fishing with the GM
One of the more popular events at The Lodge on Lake Oconee is our fishing with the GM program. On select dates throughout the year both kids and adults can join us down by the docks for either a morning or evening of fishing.
Our General Manager is a seasoned angler who fishes in the Major League Fishing (MLF) Phoenix and Toyota Series events.
Fishing Gear
The Lodge has a limited number of spincast rods and reels for guest use for this event. We’ll bait the hook for you with redworms or nightcrawlers and fish for bluegill, small bass, or even catfish.
You’re also welcome to bring your own gear and fish, but you can still utilize the redworms and nightcrawlers that we provide.
Bait fish are plentiful in our creek channel, and with the small hooks and worms we use for this event your just about guaranteed to catch a fish!
We’ll unbutton the fish from the hook and return the fish to the lake or we’ll teach kids how to properly return the fish to the lake themselves without causing injury or trauma.
Upon completion of the event, kids will receive a Certificate of Achievement. We’re also hoping to add some other great prizes this year – stay tuned!
Kayak Fishing with the GM
This year we will also be adding Kayak Fishing with the GM excursions on select dates. For this event, participants must be a minimum of 14 years old and you must bring your own fishing gear. You can rent one of our kayaks or canoes or bring your own.
These events will be both scheduled and on request. Simply contact the GM when you arrive and if the schedule and weather permit we can head out on the lake during your stay.
In general, we’ll stay within two miles of our launch at the hotel. You MUST keep your life jacket on at all times during our excursion.
We will be fishing for largemouth bass, hybrid bass, and the occasional striped bass. We may even run into a flathead catfish or two.
